Welcome to my little slice of Heaven on earth: The Container Store.
As a professional organizer, this place holds a special place in my heart. It’s like a family member or best friend:
- it’s always there for you
- it provides you with the support you need
- it inspires you
- it energizes you
- it lifts you up
- it makes you feel like you are the most amazing person in the world
And who doesn’t want a little of that?!?
Practically, however, The Container Store is my go-to destination for everything I need:
- It’s consistent in carrying the same line, style and brand of products
- I know I’ll get exactly what I’m looking for
- there are multiple locations where I can source everything in order to get more of what I need from various stores
- it’s constantly introducing new products and organizing trends to keep me on top of my game
- it sets me up for success
While I love finding a great bargain and hunting for deals, The Container Store delivers on all fronts. That is also why I don’t shop at variety discount dollar stores or big box stores for organizing products. You never know what they’ll have, they’re constantly rotating product, moving in specials or selling off products that didn’t move elsewhere. If you love a basket or bin you bought there last year and now you need 2 more of them, there is usually no chance you’ll find them again. The selection is just not consistent enough to depend on those stores.
That is why The Container Store is my one-stop shop to find the right organizing solutions we need and to create the organized spaces we all love.

If your little kid isn’t a little kid anymore, it’s time to age up their room! In this video, I show you how we do just that by reorganizing closets and redesigning their space to make this room fit for a teen!

Aging up a kid’s room is no small feat! Children grow fast, and you need a teenager room makeover that keeps pace with their growing personality and sense of independence.
If your teen has outgrown their bedroom, then this video of tween and teen room makeover tips is for you! Discover many ways you can update and organize their space to create a teenage bedroom, closet, work station and toy storage area befitting of a tween or teen.
These DIY teen room makeover tips and examples will inspire you to take on the challenge and age up your kid’s room. Explore creative ways to perform a kid to teen makeover that:
• Showcases the games and toys they’re not ready to part with
• Establishes a winning teen desk area for their increasing volume of homework
• Delivers a multi-purpose teenage closet with great closet storage and uses for teens
• Transforms that childhood clutter into the best teen storage areas
The result will be a haven for your grown-up teenager and their homework.
Case #1: My Own Teen!
I am currently going through this process with my own teen…we conducted a major edit of his library, slashed through shelves of board games and puzzles and did a deep dive into his cubbies of treasures from his earliest years of childhood. It was a fun walk down memory lane!
Case #2: The Teenage Closet Refresh
Closets are a natural place to start with updating your kid’s room.
In this teen room makeover, we:
· Raised the rod for the clothes
· Added baskets to contain more seasonal items, and
· Created more space between shelves for folded clothes
Case #3: The Multi-Purpose Closet for Teens
For this teenager, we completely redesigned her closet. We gave her much more hanging space, more storage space above, a better solution for drawers below – and we even added a small vanity so she had her own special place to get ready. We also ordered and later installed shoe shelves to finish off this teen’s newly organized closet system.
Case #4: Decluttering and RelocatingKids like collecting small items. While aging up a kid’s room, you may find that your child is ready to part with several items, but many little items they still hold dear.
Part of aging up a teenager’s bedroom involves corralling the little toys and tchotchkes, activity items, including markers and pens, as well as beauty and grooming items (hair bands, cosmetics, etc.). With a clutter-free space, your teen can have a haven for themselves and their homework. For this teen, the room now feels more open and spacious after we organized and stored her treasured possessions in less prominent areas.
Case #5: Repurposing Childhood Items
Sometimes tweens and teens are ready for a more sophisticated room but still want to cherish many childhood books and toys.
In this final child’s room makeover, we helped age up a room for a tween by finding creative ways to honor his favorite possessions, while still establishing a clutter-free zone. We mounted a display shelf for presenting his treasured books, introduced labeled bins for storing his toys and tchotchkes, and freed up space on his desk, making it a more inviting area for homework.

Kid’s Closet Makeover | Kids to Teen ROOM Upgrade| Cary Prince Organizing

Packing your kid for summer camp? Follow my 5 easy steps on how to pack for sleepaway camp. From choosing the right gear to labeling clothing, come pack with me – I’ll share packing tips on how to do it and show you how easy it is to get your kid packed for camp and ready for their fun summer ahead!
Step 1: Create a Packing List
Create a packing list – or better yet: consult the packing list your camp sends you. Most camps have already figured out what your child needs, based on camp activities and how long they’ll be there. Now is also the time to purchase (or borrow from friends or siblings) anything that is missing.
Step 2: Gather Everything!
Pull together all the clothes, towels, bedding, gear and toiletries so you can check those items off your list and make sure you have gathered everything that your child will need. Now that you have everything in one place, you can move on to the next step.
Step 3: Label Everything
If you want your camper’s items to come back home with them, label it! By gathering everything together in the previous step, it’ll be so much easier. You want to do all the labeling at once. Remember to put labels on shoes, water bottles, books, hats, flashlights and even pillows.

You can also use ziplock bags for their kids’ clothing – it’s an easy, cheap solution that delivers the same results.
Step 5: Load it Up!
Now this is the most exciting step, because you’re getting that much closer to going to camp! If you haven’t already, involve your kids in this step so they know where everything is going in their truck or duffel. Have fun with this part and start counting down the days . . . to more fun ahead!

There is a secret to organizing and decluttering your closet, and it all comes down to this: just 3 questions! In this video I show you how to use these 3 questions to organize your jeans – and this is a strategy you can apply to your entire wardrobe, not just a Jeans Cleanout, but a whole closet cleanout!
Question #1: 80/20 Rule
You only wear 20% of your clothing 80% of the time…so what items in that 80% category can go? Once you realize you’re not wearing those items, why hold on to them? Keep only what you love and what you wear!
Question #2: Does it fit?
This is the next big question to ask yourself – and especially when it comes to jeans. If they’re a little too tight, you may not reach for them. Why be uncomfortable for a day or an evening out in jeans that squeeze you and make you feel miserable? Which brings us to the last question:
Question #3: Do you feel fabulous?
You should feel fabulous when you put that item of clothing on! You know you’ll “wow” that date, make a grand entrance to that party or breeze down the street with confidence. Why put on something that makes you feel anything but fabulous? Don’t waste your precious time in life in garments that bring you down. Choose and wear only those items that make you feel great!
Organizing and decluttering an entire closet is overwhelming – but when you break it down into smaller steps, it’s totally manageable. Choose one category to begin, and you will soon have an organized, decluttered closet featuring the clothes that you wear, that fit and that you love.
I hope this video helped as I declutter my closet as an example.

#shorts Choosing a Kitchen Drawer Organizer

Kitchen drawer organizing is the first step towards a more organized kitchen -- so come organize with me and let’s get your drawers in shape! In this video, I walk you through each step on how to clear the clutter, reduce the mayhem and restore order in drawers so your kitchen runs smoothly and efficiently. Let’s get started!
Step 1: Empty Your Drawer!
The first step to organizing a kitchen drawer is figuring out what’s inside of it - so take everything out!
Step 2: Sort & Categorize
As you take things out, start grouping like with like – utensils and silverware are easy items to sort, but once you get into drawers with cooking or food prep tools, create broad categories to group items together: for example, long cooking utensils like spoons, spatulas and tongs; “openers” like a garlic press, lemon juicer and can opener; or measuring tools like measuring spoons and thermometers.
Step 3: Clean & Measure
Let’s clean out that drawer to remove all the crumbs, and then measure the drawer’s width, depth & height. Try to get precise measurements down to 1/8” if you are going to install drawer organizers, and measure down to 1/16” if you are going to line that drawer with a liner.
Step 4: Choose Your Organizer
By their very nature, drawers will get unorganized! There are a two ways you can help prevent this:
Drawer Organizers
Drawer Dividers
Step 5: Install Organizing Solution
Place the organizers in the drawer so they fit as snugly as possible, as that will dictate how/where you can place items in the drawer.
Step 6: Organize Your Drawer!
Let’s put everything back in!
With that, you should now have organized kitchen drawers. Enjoy them!

Since drawers are the most accessible storage spaces in your kitchen, it is important to keep them organized so your kitchen can run smoothly. And it’s never too late to consider re-organizing your drawers to make sure they are still working for you. Times change, your needs change and the ways you use items in your drawers change, too. In fact, in this video, I actually re-evaluated my kitchen and realized my drawers could use some updating -- and I show you how I re-engineered three entire drawers in my own kitchen!

Are you buried in paper and dying to get out? Join me on this challenge to declutter and organize your papers so you can enjoy a clean counter! I show you how to process your mail, declutter your paper and organize your documents into a manageable system.
First, get the tools you need: bags for recycling, shredding and trash, a letter opener, an ID stamp and, most importantly, your perseverance + stamina! You can do this!!!
Second, let’s get started: sort one piece of paper at a time and put each piece of paper in its appropriate pile (action/file/scan) or bag (recycle/shred/trash). Creating a system is the key to paper organization -- and paper organization is the secret solution to clearing your counters.
Finally, you’ll see how quickly this goes if you can follow this mail organization system on a daily basis: 1-2 minutes top. So let’s declutter that mail, organize that paper and clean those counters so you can get ready to enjoy your organized home.
